As part of LVEDC’s Five-Year Strategic Plan to boost innovation and talent, we are developing programs and strategies to attract and keep young professionals, who are a primary aspect of sustained economic development for the future of the region. To that end LVEDC recently filmed discussions with some of the region’s entrepreneurs and YPs.

Save the Date: Regional Transportation Forum
Monday, April 19, 2010 Historic Hotel Bethlehem Program begins at 6:30pm (informal reception at 5:30pm)
Coordinated by Renew Lehigh Valley, with primary support provided by the National Association of REALTORS and the Lehigh Valley Association of REALTORS (LVAR).
This community forum is an opportunity to learn about the prospects for restoring passenger rail service in the Lehigh Valley as well as to discuss how a balanced regional transportation system can help promote economic development, the continued revitalization of the region's core communities, and sustainable growth in the Lehigh Valley. This event is free and open to the public.
The forum program will include:
Keynote Speaker: Shelley Poticha, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) One of the nation's leading experts on transportation and transit-oriented development (TOD), Shelley Poticha in 2009 was named Senior Advisor at HUD and oversees the Sustainable Communities program, a joint effort between HUD, the US Department of Transportation, and the EPA. Prior to joining HUD, Ms. Poticha was President/CEO of Reconnecting America and has also served as the Executive Director of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
Presentation of Findings from New Regional Transportation Study: Representatives from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) and Lehigh and Northampton Counties will present findings from a regional transportation study (commissioned by LVEDC and the counties), which includes a preliminary feasibility study of extending NJ Transit commuter rail westward into the Lehigh Valley.
Panel Discussion and Q&A on How the Lehigh Valley Moves Forward in Creating a Balanced, Multimodal Transportation System Details on confirmed panelists will follow shortly.
