Environmental Protection Agency Event Presentations for LVLRI

Over 60 people attended Thursdays Sustainable Redevelopment and Environmental Justice Workshop which was held at the Lehigh County Government Center. This free workshop was organized by the Lehigh Valley Sustainable Development Initiative (LVSDI), Lehigh Valley Land Recycling Initiative (LVLRI) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

LVLRI Director Tracy Oscavich shared information relating to the regions Brownfield redevelopment efforts through the regional land recycling initiative. LVLRI has assisted in funding the environmental cleanup of 67 sites since 2001.

Dr. Paula Estornell from EPA and Sharon Maclean from HUD began the discussion on sustainable redevelopment with their presentation: Focus Areas Included How to Planning for Greener Clean up Sustainable Redevelopment.  After hands-on sustainable design and redevelopment exercises the group discussion moved into the topic of Environmental Justice with speakers Jose Redmond and Dr. Jonathan Essoka from the EPA. The focus of their presentation was: How to Ensure Environmental Justice in Redevelopment Planning and Implementation.

LVSDI Director Holly Edinger wrapped up the morning discussion with a brief explanation of the goals and opportunities associated with the Envision Lehigh Valley program.  Envision Lehigh Valley is funded by housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant and focuses on sustainable development and planning.
