Frank Alvarado, Director of Research & Data Management at Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC), has been recognized as one of Lehigh Valley Business’s “Forty Under 40.”
The awards honor young professionals for their contributions to the Lehigh Valley through their professional accomplishments and community involvement.
“These individuals are not only achieving success in their careers but giving back in meaningful ways to the Lehigh Valley community,” Lehigh Valley Business said.
Data drives LVEDC’s strategies to recruit and retain businesses and talent in America’s No. 1 mid-sized market for economic development, and Alvarado leads that effort. He tracks, analyzes, and interprets economic, labor, and demographic data, turning complex information into insights that can be used by LVEDC, regional partners, employers, and the public.
“Frank is a rare talent for any age,” said Don Cunningham, President & CEO of LVEDC. “We are fortunate to have him at LVEDC. His ability to turn complex data into meaningful insights helps us to tell the story of the Lehigh Valley in a compelling way. His intelligence, work ethic, broad skillset, and disposition make him a very valuable part of our team and someone to watch in the years to come.”
Alvarado’s research was part of the Lehigh Valley’s collaborative effort to secure the region’s largest economic development investment ever: Eli Lilly and Company’s $3.5 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus announced for Upper Macungie Township. Lilly’s decision-making focused on numerous data points, including Lehigh Valley’s ability to provide a workforce of 850, ranging from engineers and scientists to technicians.
His work on LVEDC’s Hot Careers Dashboard has earned awards from the International Economic Development Council and The Council for Community & Economic Research (C2ER).
Alvarado is one of only four researchers in Pennsylvania to earn the Certified Economic Research Professional designation from C2ER.
Alvarado’s career at LVEDC began as an intern in 2016. After working for several years in technology and office equipment sales, he returned to LVEDC in 2019 as Assistant Director of Outreach. He later became Talent Strategies Manager before being promoted to Director of Research & Data Management in 2023.
His involvement in the Lehigh Valley extends beyond his work at LVEDC. A former volunteer youth basketball coach, Alvarado serves on the Business Advisory Board and Alumni Board at Northampton Community College and the Board at Penn State Lehigh Valley LaunchBox.
He earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Fitchburg State University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from DeSales University, and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Northampton Community College.
“I'm honored for the opportunity to build my career in the Lehigh Valley alongside so many talented young professionals who are making a difference in our community, and grateful to everyone who has helped me grow throughout my career,” Alvarado said.
The “Forty Under 40” honorees will be recognized at a celebration Sept. 16 at DeSales University.
