LVEDC Honored as One of the World’s Best Economic Development Organizations

Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. (LVEDC) recently was recognized as one of the highest-performing economic development organizations in the world.

LVEDC won a Silver Award for Economic Development Organization of the Year from the International Economic Development Council. LVEDC competed against much larger organizations with far greater resources.

The award was one of four won by LVEDC in IEDC’s global competition.

Here is what the judges said about why LVEDC stands out.

“This organization is creative and doing some unique things to set itself apart in the region, and country.”

“Strong board member background. Love the ‘Made in Lehigh Valley’ campaign. The printed pathway guide for students is innovative for an EDO. [And] their use of international marketing.”

“I appreciate they do regular ethics training for staff. It was great to see how they measure some of their outcomes.”

Judges cited LVEDC’s strategic plan; its variety of stakeholders; its nearly 30 years of history; and having a long-term President and CEO, Don Cunningham.

The International Economic Development Council is the largest economic development association in the world, with more than 4,500 members globally. LVEDC is one of only 73 organizations to meet the council’s rigorous accreditation standards.

Each year, IEDC recognizes organizations that demonstrate consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession through projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities and improving the practice of economic development.

The four awards won by LVEDC continue the string of recognition on the Lehigh Valley for its collaborative efforts to grow the economy and create good-paying jobs.

LVEDC competed against economic development organizations in the largest regions, those with at least 500,000 people.

The Excellence in Economic Development Awards won by LVEDC were:

Gold Award, Special Event, for the Fall Signature Event last October, “Lehigh Valley’s Technology Sector: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”

Silver Award, Economic Development Organization of the Year.
